About the event
Mozart's Requiem has continued to fascinate audiences since its composition in the 1790s. Its origins are mysterious; it is not known who anonymously commissioned it, and Mozart died in December 1791, before he could complete the work. Much of what we now know as the Requiem was completed by Süssmayr, a pupil of Mozart's. Despite - or perhaps partly because of - this mystery it remains one of the most moving works in the choral repertoire. The Choir of the European Union (CUE) performs with the orchestral ensemble Mosan, under the direction of Jean-Pierre Haeck. Matthew is thrilled to perform again with the CUE, after singing Adam/Raphael in Haydn's Die Schopfung in 2014 and the title role in Mendelssohn's Paulus in 2016.
